What are Epic Quests Leadership Adventures?

Epic Quests Leadership Adventures combine exciting outdoor experiences with intentional leadership development. Through activities such as caving, kayaking, rock climbing, camping, backpacking, and other outdoor adventures, participants develop confidence, communication, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving skills while discovering their potential in a safe, supportive environment. Every experience is designed to challenge participants, encourage personal growth, and create lasting memories.

Who can participate?

Our adventures are designed for a wide variety of groups, including elementary, middle, and high school students, college groups, youth organizations, families, community organizations, and adult leadership teams. Programs are customized to meet the age, experience level, and goals of each group. Over the years, we've led adventures for participants ranging in age from 8 to 85 years old.

How do I book an adventure?

Booking an Epic Quest is simple.

Step 1:    Contact us through our online inquiry form, email, or phone.

Step 2: We'll schedule a brief consultation to discuss your group's goals, size, experience level, preferred dates, and adventure options.

Step 3: Together, we'll select the experience that best meets your objectives and finalize the details.

Step 4: Once your reservation is confirmed, you'll receive a complete participant information packet with everything needed to prepare for your adventure.

What should participants wear and bring?

Because every adventure is unique, clothing and equipment requirements vary depending on the activity, season, location, and weather conditions.

Once your adventure is booked, you'll receive a detailed participant information packet that includes:

• Recommended clothing

• A personalized packing list

• Required personal equipment

• Items provided by Discovery Leadership Institute

• Weather recommendations

• Meeting location and arrival instructions

• Trip itinerary

• Required forms and waivers

• Emergency contact information

Our goal is to ensure every participant arrives prepared, comfortable, and ready for a safe and successful experience.

Is equipment provided?

Yes. Discovery Leadership Institute provides the specialized equipment required for each adventure. Depending on the activity, this may include helmets, climbing harnesses, ropes, life jackets (PFDs), paddles, kayaks, caving helmets, headlamps, group safety equipment, and first aid supplies.

Participants are responsible only for the personal clothing and items outlined in their customized packing list.

How do you manage risk?

Participant safety is our highest priority. Every adventure is carefully planned using established risk management practices designed to provide challenging yet safe experiences.

Our safety procedures include:

• Thorough site assessments and trip planning

• Equipment inspections before every program

• Participant safety orientations

• Progressive instruction based on experience level

• Appropriate instructor-to-participant ratios

• Continuous weather and environmental monitoring

• Emergency communication plans

• Emergency action procedures

• Required medical information and liability waivers

Activities may be modified, relocated, or rescheduled if weather or environmental conditions create unnecessary risk.

What qualifications does our team have?

Discovery Leadership Institute is led by experienced outdoor educators who are passionate about helping people grow through meaningful adventure.

​

Highlights include:

• More than 40 years of personal outdoor experience, including rock climbing, whitewater kayaking and caving.

• Founder of Outdoor Quests (established in 2000).

• American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Kayak Instructor.

• CPR and First Aid trained. - current certification

• Former whitewater rafting guide with Spirit Whitewater and Kaweah Whitewater.

• Rafting Instructor Certification through Spirit Whitewater (2000).

• Leading youth and adults in outdoor leadership adventures since 2004. Past clients include Sanger Unified School District, Big Picture High School, Fresno County Boys and Girls Club, and Fresno California Conservation Corps.

 

Our team has led adventures for organizations including the Boys & Girls Club, California Conservation Corps, Sanger Unified School District, Fresno Youth Council, Civic Education Center, community organizations, and private groups. Participants have ranged in age from 8 to 85 years old.

Participants don't simply complete activities—they discover new strengths, overcome challenges, build meaningful relationships, and leave with skills that extend far beyond the outdoors.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety always comes first. Depending on weather conditions, we may adjust the itinerary, relocate the activity, modify the program, or reschedule the adventure. Decisions are made based on current conditions and the safety of all participants.
